Intro to Design
This foundational course introduces students to the discipline of design. Students learn to use primary design tools, both digital and physical. The course gives students a grounding in design principles, tools, concepts and a brief history of different types of practicing designers. Students will have a basic understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and the design process after completing this course.

Print Design & Narrative
Students are introduced to print narrative through typography and image making. Principles of composition: scale, weight, space, texture, direction, form, color will be introduced. Other basic design foundations including color, grid, methodology, craftsmanship and tools for creating print design will be explored. This course expands the concept of narrative by examining multiple printed formats such as posters, booklets, postcards and zines.

Other basic elements of typography, including classifications and history will be introduced. This course requires an intense focus on typography, structure, consistency, and hierarchy. Only a limited number of time tested typefaces will be explored and no imagery will be allowed. Students will learn to make meaning visible through typographic choices and critical reading of texts.

Image Making + Collage
This studio course, as part of Design Topics, offers exploration and analysis of selected topics with a specific contemporary design focus. This course may be taken 3 times for credit as long as different topics are offered.

Bio
Lisa is a Loyola University New Orleans graduate committed to ensuring her students acquire the same skill set she gained as an undergraduate. After working for a few years in advertising and traditional design, Lisa received her MFA at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She focused on collaborating with classmates and community members to conduct workshops and spread awareness of how art can help heal trauma.
